Business Projects

As a result of allowing private investment in ports, and API’s ability to invest its own resources, to date more than one billion, seven hundred million pesos have been allocated for the construction and development of new infrastructure, terminals, installations and port services, of which the private investment is 61.3 %, and the rest are the Port Administration’s own resources, generated in the Port.

This has allowed us to handle the growing demand of merchandise traffic, from 3,825,000 tons in 1994, date when API began operations to 10,400,000 tons that we expect to handle this year.

Also, merchandise transportation grew from 63,807 20 foot containers (TEUS) to more than 500,000 TEUS that we hope to handle this year, making us the port with the most growth in recent years, (compounded growth rate of 37%) in regards to container traffic, which gives us first place on the Mexican Pacific and second place nationally.

This growth has allowed us to project that for the year 2006, we will handle 12.3 million tons, and invest around 1,300 million pesos for the years 2001 to 2006.
