The Port Of Manzanillo Investing in IT
October 5, 2009
The Port Administration of Manzanillo is concentrating its efforts and investments to implement a series of digital advancements destined to satisfy the needs generated by port operations, and achieve its commitment to provide quality services to the users and clients of the Port of Manzanillo.
With the implementation of these programs, the following benefits have been achieved:
Our clients do not have to personally visit our offices to deliver paperwork, make payments or receive invoices; these can all be done through our newly implemented automated processes.
The procedures to request authorization for access to the interior port will all be via internet, avoiding long lines and wasted time.
We are continuing with activities that will create a more secure port, with strict control over dangerous merchandise in the port, with information on-line regarding location, a detailed description of the merchandise and guidelines for implementing emergency and accident response plans.
The total automation of information flow and paperwork, from a ship’s arrival in the Port, to its unloading and departing.
Updates via e-mail and text messaging by cell phone to our clients and the port community regarding upcoming events, as well as notes of interest.
The ability to locate on-line up to date statistical information on monthly cargo handled as well as accumulated numbers.
We reiterate our commitment to the conservation of our environment by reducing by 30% the use of paper in our internal communications and with our clients.
These benefits are a result of the support from three partners: the Integrated System for the Administration of Government Funds (SIAR/GRP by its initials in Spanish) which reinforces API’s administrative policies; the Port’s Operating System (SOP) which covers the operational aspects of the yards and makes available the methods so that our clients and Customs Brokers can follow procedures and make electronic payments in order to retrieve their merchandise; and finally, the Port Without Paper System (PSP) which has internal controls so that API’s employees, and our clients can enjoy features such as: the Port’s maritime traffic control, control and inventory of hazardous cargo within the Port, information on abandoned containers, requests to enter the Port, ship traffic statistics, loading and unloading maneuvers, and electronic payment transfers.
The Port Administration of Manzanillo, will continue to improve its information systems and automation procedures, in order to continue at the forefront offering state of the art services to the Port of Manzanillo’s clients, using its administrative software.
