The Mexican Ministry of Communication and Transportation declares the winner for the Specialized Container Terminal II in Manzanillo

• The total investment is estimated around 10 thousand million pesos (800 million US Dollars) between public and private resources, and will generate more than 6 thousand new jobs.

The Ministry of Communication and Transportation (SCT), through the General Coordination of Seaports and Merchant Marine announced today the company International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) as the winner of the contest for the construction, equipment, usage, benefit, operation and exploit of the new Specialized Container Terminal II in Manzanillo, Colima summoned by the Manzanillo Port Authority (API).

For the construction and equipment of such seaport infrastructure 7,300 million pesos (550 million US Dollars) will be invested benefitting the inhabitants by the creation of more than 6,000 direct and indirect jobs.

The property is going to be able to handle and manage around 2 million containers a year, with a terrestrial surface of 72.42 hectares and a maritime surface of 5.4 hectares located in the North Zone of the Manzanillo seaport compound.

The new terminal will have three berths 360 meters long, 1,080 meters for docking and -16 meters depth.

This innovative infrastructure will allow consolidating Manzanillo as the number one Seaport in container movement nationwide. Manzanillo actually handles 46% of the containerized cargo in the nation and 68% in the Mexican Pacific Coast.

Manzanillo influence zone is conformed by 17 federal states which all together accounts for 55% of the population in the country and 67% of the Gross Domestic Product.

Internationally speaking, Manzanillo is heading towards being one of the most efficient Seaports of Latin America, and this terminal will help improving the position on the 100 World Ranking list.

The construction of this terminal goes accordly with the actions taken by the Ministry of Communication and Transportation having a direct effect in benefit of the economic development of the nation, specially the Manzanillo surrounding regions and the creation of thousands of new job positions.
